ORCHARD MESA GUN CLUB MEMBERS MEETING
July 17, 2012
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by the President, Chuck Lopas. There were 29 members present. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited by all present.
MINUTES: The minutes of the June members meeting were read by the Secretary and accepted as read.
TREASURERS REPORT: The Treasurers Report was given by the Treasurer. It was moved, seconded and passed to accept the report.
CORRESPONDENCE: An e-mail was received by the Club concerning membership and use of the range for qualifications and classes. The reply to this e-mail was returned undeliverable. Joe Brevis of Savage Arms will make flyers regarding the September demonstration of Savage rifles for the Club. Shots of the rimfire rifles will be free, and the first 5 shots with center fire rifles also. Shooters will be required to pay for subsequent shots from these rifles and all shots taken with the 338 Lapua rifle. It was noted the September work day scheduled for that same day has been canceled.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: The 4H County Fair shoot, and the 2 outdoor skills days all went well. The Schutzen Regional Match attracted 11 shooters and $33.00 was turned in along with a donation of $118.09 to the Club. They also had 3 shooters on Sunday and $9.00 was turned in.
OLD BUSINESS: There was a long discussion regarding the issue of pistol firing on the north range. Subsequently a motion was made, seconded and passed to allow pistol shooting only at ranges of 100, 200, and 300 yards, and all bullets must impact a berm on the north range. Members were reminded that all members are responsible for seeing Club range use rules are followed. It being determined a quorum was present the two proposed OMGC By-Laws changes concerning due process for the handling of serious range safety rules, and changing the timing of the yearly audit to conform to the calendar year, were passed. The plans for improving the range house will continue going forward.
NEW BUSINESS: The Apple Seed Project concerning the teaching of marksmanship and Revolutionary War history was discussed. The Club could accommodate up to 25 students per session. The Club must be furnished proof of liability insurance coverage. The Club would provide a range safety officer. This would help the Club in its requirement to provide public access to our range. It was moved, seconded and passed to work further with this organization and these events, for 2013.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the members it was moved, seconded and passed to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM by the President.
