PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Irv Deines

A Prosperous and Happy New Year to Everyone!

With this New Year have come new tasks and decisions to make in order to keep on top of organizational affairs, as well as a few reminders:

ʘ There are important amendments to our bylaws (published in this newsletter), requiring ratification in forty-five (45) days.

ʘ We are seriously considering the construction of new berms at the range in order to insure a greater safety cushion with our neighbors.

ʘ Badges – it is OMGC policy that members visibly display badges on hats, clothing, shooting bags, etc. Failure to do so may result in a ‘no-badge, no-shoot’ situation.

ʘ Trash Barrels – we have trash barrels at the range, however, it would help the Gun Club if everyone would please pack out their own trash. Accumulated rubbish during the ‘no burn’ season is a big problem because this means we have to recruit volunteers to make dump runs.

ʘ Though the majority of shooters at the range adhere strictly to the no-alcohol regulation, on rare occasions we do come across an alcoholic beverage container in the trash. If you witness anyone – member or guest, shooter or observer – indulging in this practice, please inform him or her of this very important safety rule.

Participation at meetings is vital to the continued success and well-being of the OMGC, and everyone is encouraged to attend as often as possible. Mark your 2006 calendars for the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Division of Wildlife Training and Education Building on Independent Avenue. Meetings are called to order at 7:30 p.m. I hope to see you there, and look forward to serving as your president for the next two years.

Thanks,

Irv

NRA Memberships

It is imperative that all Orchard Mesa Gun Club members maintain their NRA membership. We are a 100% NRA club and have been since the founding of OMGC. Our insurance premium is based on that fact. In order to keep the insurance premium as low as possible we must maintain the 100% NRA club status. In order to make this easier for club members, OMGC has joined the NRA recruiter program. You can now renew your NRA membership when you renew your OMGC membership. Here is the real deal: if you choose to renew your NRA membership through the OMGC. OMGC will reduce your NRA dues by $5.00. In order to take advantage of this option, when your OMGC renewal notice is returned to us please include $30.00 to cover your NRA membership. If you wish to change magazines make a note on the OMGC renewal notice. Remember that only the bottom 1/3 of the renewal notice needs to be returned, please keep the rules section for your recollection & review. You can always renew you OMGC membership and your NRA membership for multiple years.

New Club Officers

New club officers were elected in December of 2005. Irv Deines was elected President. Al Chicon was elected as Vice President. Pat Weber and Dean Blanck will maintain their positions as Treasurer and Secretary respectively.

Bylaws changes

Inside of this newsletter you will find notice of some proposed changes to the OMGC Bylaws. These changes have been suggested for the betterment of the club. They must be voted on and approved by the members present at the membership meeting on March 21, 2006. The officers, and Board of Directors would appreciate your participation in this meeting. There may be some additional changes in the general operation of OMGC, so it would be advisable to attend all future meetings and participate in the process.

Combination Change

The combination on the locks at the range will be changed on February 29th. The new combination is 2836

The Gravel Pit

Many of you may not know that a permit to mine gravel directly east of our range on BLM property, has been approved by the Mesa County Planning Commission and the Mesa County Board of Commissioners. There are several bureaucratic hoops that are still in front of the developer before actual mining can commence. There has been considerable negotiation being conducted by the OMGC Board of Directors, BLM and the gravel permit holder/developer, these completed negotiations will require several changes in the range rules and a significant change in the appearance of the OMGC range. These changes will support the safety of workers at the gravel pit and enhance the capabilities of our range. The developer of the gravel pit will be required by the agreement to provide assistance in making these changes. Club members will be notified in a subsequent edition of the GAZETTE of changes in the safety and operational rules concerning the use of the OMGC range. Rules changes will also be posted in the range house and on the firing line. Every member is required to know and abide by the Orchard Mesa Gun Club Range Safety Rules

Calendars

The shoot calendars are enclosed in this newsletter. Of special note is the Light Rifle Tournament. This shoot is designed for the informal shooter who has access to a simple .22 rifle. The real opportunity here is to introduce your friends who have children to the shooting sports. The entry fee is low and the prizes are great.
