Club Work Day
Saturday March 18, 2017
It has been decided that the 75± year old storage building directly behind the main covered range firing line be replaced with a new Multipurpose / Storage Building. The size and location of the new building will be discussed at the Saturday March 18, 2017 Club Work Day. Start time is 0800. Following the new building discussion, we will do a general cleanup of the facility, repair target stands and check condition of signs around the range.
(Many hands make light work, this is one work day you don’t want to miss)
Greetings to all our Members,
Orchard Mesa Gun Club is renaming the main covered range firing line to the
“Russ Weber Firing Line”
Russ Weber joined the OMGC in December 1960 and has been an active member for the past 57 years! Russ was born in Princeton, Nebraska. His family moved to Montrose when he was five years old where he graduated from Montrose High School, worked on the family farm, and worked at the Potatoes Growers warehouse for three years. In 1952 he joined the Navy where he was a jet engine mechanic. After 4 years in the navy, he returned to Colorado and lived in Placerville, Uravan and Grand Junction for about 12 years hauling uranium ore. When Russ moved to Grand Junction in 1960 he became a real estate broker, joined the Orchard Mesa Gun Club, and enjoyed shooting in various matches. He started the Junior Club and taught youth firearm safety for many years. Through the years, Russ has served the OMGC by helping with many projects including building what is now the Club House, rebuilding the firing line cover when the wind blew it off, serving 2 years as President and being named to the Board of Directors, as well as brokering the real estate acquisition of the ‘South 40’ acres (all pro bono) which now holds the Pistol Pits. We salute Russ Weber for all his contributions to and unfailing support of the OMGC, his good humor, and commitment to excellence.
Our roster includes nearly 300 members and all have various skills and knowledge to share. I’d like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our Officers: Jonathan Kobylarz (Vice-President),
Jeff Howard (Secretary), Art Bennett (Treasurer) and members of the Board: Tom Matthews (Chair),
Lee Boren and Russell Weber. To the small number of outstanding members who regularly attend monthly meetings and work days at the range, I extend a huge “Thank you!” To our members who typically haven’t been actively involved, we need you! This is a call to action: please step up and participate in the monthly club meetings and various activities. Our By-Laws state: “Any person nominated to hold office in OMGC must have been a member in good standing for at least the last three (3) preceding years and must be reasonably active in OMGC.”
I look forward to meeting more of you at our 2017 meetings & events! Please visit your OMGC website at www.omgunclub.org for more information. The OMGC regular monthly meetings are held on the third (3rd) Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm in the Club House at the OMGC, 150 BrowningRoad,
Grand Junction, Colorado 81503. Should you have any questions, concerns or information to contribute, you can reach me via email at:

Car Firearm Show??
We all know automotive enthusiasts and have probably attended a car show. We’ve admired the beautiful paint and pin striping, seen custom upholstery, and been dazzled by highly polished chrome. What do gun enthusiasts do to appreciate our hobby/passion for firearms? A trip to the NRA Museum in Arlington, Virginia is one option, but what about within our own community?
